Beach Evacuated Briefly Sunday Due To Suspicious Item

Emergency Services responded and found it was not an explosive.

Police evacuated Eastern Point Beach Sunday morning after a suspicious item was discovered at 10:24 a.m., according to a City of Groton Police Department news release.

Emergency Services responded and found it was not an explosive. City of Groton Fire Department and Groton Amublance responded as a precaution.

Members of the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services unit also responded, found the item was not explosive and disposed of it. Police did not say what the item was. The call was cleared at 12:15 p.m. and the beach reopened, police said.
