Electric Boat Investigating Small Fire

A minor equipment fire in the basin of Graving Dock 3 at Electric Boat was quickly extinguished Wednesday evening, an EB official said today. 

While there were no injuries reported there was a small amount of damage to some equipment, said Robert Hamilton, director of communications for General Dynamics, EB's parent company. 

The fire was reported just after  5 p.m. and EB Fire Department personnel declared the fire out at 5:18 p.m, Hamilton said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

The submarine USS Toledo was in the basin at the time but was not involved in the incident, Hamilton added. Initial scanner reports that said otherwise were  incorrect, he said. 

Naval Submarine Base Fire Department and Groton City Fire Department responded to the mutual aid fire call.
