Fire Damages Groton House on Meridian Street Extension

One firefighter treated for heat exhaustion; no other injuries reported.

Fire damaged a house at 699 Meridian Street Extension in Groton Monday afternoon.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.

Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department Chief Tom Paige said the fire,  reported at 3:55 p.m., started in the wall and spread to the attic. The damage was contained to the attic. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, Paige said.

Groton City Fire Department and the Subbase team were also called in to assist.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
