Going To The Dog Park? Be Careful.

Groton Animal Control Officer Donna Duso urges pet owners to use caution after one dog killed another outside the Groton dog park.

 

One dog killed another outside the Groton Dog Park last month, and Animal Control Officer Donna Duso said it s a reminder to pet owners to be cautious.

Duso said the dogs were on leashes and passing each other when one animal, a Siberian Husky, quickly grabbed a smaller dog, a young Pomeranian. The smaller dog died.

"These were two people with dogs on leashes that were out at the park and it happened that quick," she said. "It traumatized both parties."

Duso said the incident is a warning to watch for dominant behavior, such as dogs jumping on top of other animals.

"Everyone should be careful and make sure they follow the rules of the park. Big dogs should be in the big park and little dogs should be in the little park," she said.

Duso said if owners watch a dog and get a bad feeling, they should get the dog out.

"If I'm playing nice with you and then I start really grabbing you and knocking you to the ground, you're not going to like it," she said. "That behavior is the red flag to look for."
