Got Unwanted Drugs? Here's Where to Bring Them Saturday

The DEA is holding a prescription-drug takeback Saturday morning, and one of the collection points is the Groton Senior Center parking lot.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is holding its sixth nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you have expired, unused, dangerous or otherwise unwanted prescription drugs, you can bring them to one of several collection sites across the region and turn them in so authorities can destroy them safely.

The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked.

Participating locations in New London County include Connecticut State Police Resident Trooper offices in North Stonington, Ledyard, Salem, Niantic, Colchester, Montville, Old Lyme, Lebanon and Preston, as well as state police barracks in Colchester (Troop K) and Montville (Troop E) and the Montville Police Department, the Norwich Police Department, the East Lyme Police Department and the Groton Town Police Department (in the senior center parking lot). You can find addresses and a map by visiting www.dea.gov, clicking on the “Got Drugs?” icon, and following the links to a database where you can enter your zip code.

The DEA's New England Field Division collected 38,694 pounds of prescription medications during the September 2012 DEA “Take-Back” initiative. In New England, there were 539 return sites and 503 participating agencies.  Nationwide, over 488,395 pounds of unwanted or unneeded prescriptions were recovered.
