Groton Man Arrested After Dog Found Dead In Yard

Animal Found In Crate With No Water

Groton police arrested a man Friday afternoon after discovering a dog dead in a crate with no water in the backyard.

 “whether in a car, or (elsewhere),” said Groton Animal Control Officer Donna Duso. The arrest occurred at about 12:30 p.m.

According to the police log, Steven M. McConnell, 31, of 28 Firethorn Avenue, was charged with cruelty to animals and breach of peace. He was scheduled to appear in court August 5. He was released on a $1,000 bond.

No further information was available.

This is the first animal to die in the heat this year, but it has happened before, Duso said.

“It happens a little too often,” she said.
