Groton Man Died In Motorcycle Crash Friday

Accident Occurred on Gold Star Highway Near Welles Road

A Groton man died in a motorcycle accident on Gold Star Highway on Friday, police said.

John J. Hatch, 49, of 600 Meridian St. Extension in Groton, was taken by Life Star after the accident at 9:21 p.m. near Welles Road, police said. No other vehicles were involved.

Mystic River Ambulance and Old Mystic Fire Department responded to the crash. Police said Hatch was brought to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to his obituary, Hatch was born in Charlotte, S.C., pursued his interest in becoming an auto mechanic, and rebuilt Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The obituary said Hatch is survived by his son, Kyle; daughter, Erica; his brothers, his grandson, his mother, and several nieces and nephews.

The obituary said Terri Carbonneau, described as "the love of his life," died two years ago.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen in Uncasville. The family is seeking help with funeral expenses.
