Groton Police Chief Kelly Fogg Will Retire After 29 Years

Chief started at age 19 and moved up through the ranks

Groton Town Police Chief Kelly Fogg, who started with the department at age 19 and moved through the ranks to become chief, will retire on June 25.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce my plan to retire after 29 years of service," he wrote in a letter to the town.  Fogg said former Chief Robert Falvey ”took a chance on hiring a 19-year-old kid, and I’ve worked hard so his decision would never be regretted.”

Deputy Chief Michael Crowley will take over as acting chief until a new chief is hired.

“My decision to retire at this time is mostly a business decision mixed with some personal reasons,” Fogg wrote. He has been Groton Town Police Chief for six years.

Town Manager Mark Oefinger said Fogg recently took a vacation to Arizona, and his house sale, which had been delayed by a contingency, went through.
