Groton Police Cracking Down On Seat Belt Use

Click It Or Ticket 2011 Will Focus On Drivers Especially At Night

Groton Town Police will be cracking down on drivers who fail to buckle up during the national "click it or ticket" seatbelt intiative that begins today.

According to a police department news release, passengers in cars during night time are among those least likely to fasten their seat belts and most likely to be killed in an accident if not buckled in. Of those who died in night time accidents in 2009, two-thirds were not wearing seat belts, the release said.

"Many more night time traffic deaths can be prevented if more motorists simply start wearing their seat belts," said Groton Police Sgt. Jeff Scribner, adding, "...We will be out in force to remind drivers and occupants to always wear their seat belts - both day and night."
