Hess Dedicated to D.A.R.E.

In 1983, the Los Angeles police and school district launched Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

For the past several years, the Hess Companies, through Hess Oil Terminal on Eastern Point Road, has made the donation. And this year is no exception.

In a release issued to Patch, the City of Groton Police Department said it is once again “grateful to Mike Malley and the Hess Corporation for their generous donation of $1,500 for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.”

The DARE program seeks to teach kids “good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives,” with a vision that seeks a “world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors.”

In the City of Groton, it is a partnership between the police department, Groton Public Schools and the Sacred Heart School.

“This donation will be used to enhance the DARE program and increase the awareness of the pitfalls of drug use in our community,” Youth Officer Bobby Harris said.
