A 24-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning on several charges after allegedly carrying a firearm into the Exchange Bar & Grill.
The New London Police Department arrested Robert McIntear Jr., of 32 Colman Street, on charges of criminal possession of firearm, carrying a firearm while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, carrying a revolver without a permit, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, interfering with police, and breach of peace. He is being held on $150,000 bond.
According to a press release from Lt. Jeff Kalolo, witnesses contacted the department at 12:56 a.m. to report that McIntear might have a gun. As officers tried to escort him out of the bar to speak to him, one of them felt the gun in his waistband. Kalolo said a struggle ensued and officers found a .357 Magnum revolver and several bags of marijuana packaged for sale.
Kalolo said McIntear is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from owning a firearm. According to state records, McIntear has a prior felony conviction of sale of narcotics.
