Part Of Man's Ear Bitten Off During Fight In Groton
Ear was found near 45-year-old victim, put on ice and taken to hospital with him,
Part of a 45-year-old man’s ear was bitten off during a fight in Groton early Tuesday, police said.
Groton Police were called shortly after midnight to the area of Midway Oval and Miami Court for a report of an assault, according to a news release.
They found a 45-year-old man suffering from injuries after a fight, the release said.

“During the altercation, the suspect bit off a portion of the victim’s ear, which was recovered at the scene,” the news release said.
Lt. John Varone said the victim, who was outside, and a bystander found the ear part nearby. It was put on ice and transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital along with the victim, who was not identified.

His condition, and whether the ear was reattached, was not immediately available.
Police were not releasing a description of the suspect, but Varone said officers believe they have identified him. The suspect fled the scene.
He said such injuries occur sometimes in fights.
“It’s been quite a few years since I can remember an ear being bit off,” Varone said, adding, “Although it sounds unique and it sounds more like a Mike Tyson thing, unfortunately when people fight and it’s a violent fight, these type of things happen.”
