A 20-year-old Montville woman and a 25-year-old Griswold man were arrested Thursday night after police learned they were allegedly trying to sell AR-15 style rifles.

Connecticut State Police said troopers set up surveillance and determined that the man and woman had the rifles in a vehicle. Further investigation revealed the identities of the suspects, including that the man was a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms, according to police.

Once police saw the suspects enter the vehicle, at 191 Main St., Baltic, Conn., and confirmed that the weapons were in the vehicle, troopers approached and placed them under arrest without incident, according to the police report.

The weapons were in the back passenger compartment of the vehicle, police said. After inspecting the firearms, it was determined that one rifle qualified as an "assault weapon" under Connecticut's year-old gun law, police said.

In speaking with both parties, it was determined that they did not have legal rights to sell the firearms and that they had taken them from an acquaintance of the female, without the person’s knowledge, police said.

The suspects and the charges follow:

Chaz St. George, 25, of Tift Street in Griswold, was charged with:
