Groton's Proposed Budget Includes Cuts To Agencies

The proposed budget includes $55,750 for social service and cultural agencies, or 2.2 percent less than the current year.

Groton's proposed budget for the coming fiscal year includes $55,750 for social service and cultural agenices, a decrease of 2.2 percent from the current year's spending, but about half of what the agenices wanted.

The agencies had sought $102,115 for the coming year.

The cuts include $500 for Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc., a private, non-profit group that serves low-income families and would recieve zero in the coming fiscal year.

The group has requested $3,000 and recieved $500 from Groton this fiscal year.

Other agenices that received zero in the current fiscal year and would receieve zero again next year are: The ARC of New London County, Inc., United Community and Family Services' adult day care and primary care programs, the Lighthouse Voc-Ed Center and the Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Eastern CT, Inc.
