Catch Up With the Thames Street Reconstruction on Facebook

Groton City's Facebook page is a wealth of information.

If you haven’t seen it, here’s a great way to catch up on the progress on Thames Street. The City of Groton Facebook page features frequent updates.

The Thames Street road improvements will be completed in three phases.  They are:

  • The first is a full depth reconstruction from Bridge Street to Puffins parking lot;
  • The second involves only milling and paving from the Puffins parking lot to the City of Groton Pollution Abatement Facility (PAF); and
  • The third is full-depth construction from the PAF to Eastern Point Road. Full-depth construction entails the installation of new curbing, sidewalks, storm drainage and paving.

The project contract calls for a construction schedule of 270 calendar days or one (1) year. The project schedule includes a winter shutdown from November to March.

B&W Paving and Landscaping of Waterford is the project contractor.  In May, 2011, Groton voters approved a $6,375,000 bond issue to fund the Thames Street renovations.

William E. Lewis, City Highway Department Project Engineer, is the City’s contact for the project.  Mr. Lewis can be reached at 860-446-4164 or by e-mail at lewisw@yurservice.com.
