Downtown Mystic Parking Ban Set For Thursday Beginning At 4 a.m.

Street milling expected to continue until 5 p.m.

If your plans call for a visit to downtown Mystic Thursday be prepared to find a temporary no parking order in place.

The Groton Town Police Department has issued an official Temporary No Parking Order beginning at 4 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m.

The ban was issued because of the planned milling set to occur on West Main Street in conjunction with the contentious Mystic streetscape project.

The parking ban covers all of West Main Street from the Mystic Drawbridge to High Street.

Tuesday the Groton Town Council voted to foot the bill for five hours of free parking in the Mystic Art Center parking lot for downtown visitors to the tune of $50,000. Some had called for the free parking program to be rushed to be in place in time for the mill work, but the council could only promise a start date of this weekend.
