Federal Buildings Should Wave U.S.-Made American Flags

Several U.S. lawmakers are backing a bill, filed on the eve of July 4 in the U.S. House of Representatives, that would require it.

Some federal lawmakers are pushing for a new law that would require all American flags flown on federal buildings be American-made.

The move came this week, on the eve of July 4, and one of its sponsors is Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat. Ohio is home to several makers of U.S. flags.

Currently, the U.S. spends $3.6 million importing many American flags from China.

A similar bill was approved by the U.S. House in 2010, but died before it reached the Senate.

The federal measure mirrors a debate currently underway in other states across the country. Minnesota recently passed a law requiring all flags sold in stores in that state to be made in the U.S.

Arizona also requires public schools, from junior high school and up, to fly only U.S.-made flags.

Nice sentiment however this tax payer money. What would the cost be to buy American? Many of us just cannot afford the additional tax that would be required to purchase American made

I still think it's worth the extra cost to have it come from an American factory. Look at it this way: we are helping keep a business afloat, which pays taxes for doing business in the US. It may not pay back our community exactly, but the taxes the company pays to the Feds trickle down. So we still benefit from it in the end. :)

This is a law that should be passed immediatley. American made means American jobs. sorry a real american flag is made in america not in china. Where did all our jobs go look to China and country that uses slave labor and steals technology wherever it can. Sorry but free trade the WTO and NAFTA do not work it may make things cheaper but it takes jobs right out of the country like Ross Perot said it would when he ran for President in 1992 and he was right.

I would agree but the federal budget is out of control and savings are needed anywhere they can be had
