Groton Has a New Mayor, a Democrat

Rita M. Schmidt was elected Mayor Tuesday night

Groton has a new mayor. And she’s a Democrat.

According to a report in The Day, the newly sworn-in Groton Town Council is Democratically controlled, the first time in three decades. And following the swearing in, Democrat Rita M. Schmidt was elected mayor in an unanimous vote, The Day reported.

As reported by Patch, Democrats wrested control of the Town Council from Republicans in the November election.
