Groton Town Council Approves Tax Rate Increase

The new tax rate will take effect July 1.

The Groton Town Council approved 2.5 percent tax rate increase Tuesday with all but one councilor, Deborah Peruzzotti, approving the measure.

The tax rate will go up by 0.5 mills from 20.22 mills to 20.72 mills, according to a report in The Day newspaper. Next year, the town will be spending a little less than this year, the RTM approved a  $119,953,958 budget which is 0.8 percent less than this year's budget, but because revenues are down, the tax rate will increase.

Peruzzotti said to reporters with The Day, “I think it's important that we know how hard the council struggled to reduce taxes as much as we possibly could.”
