Happy Fourth of July. Now, Fork It Over!

And we're not talking burgers and dogs.

July is awesome: The Fourth, picnics, fireflies, the beach, backyard BBQs …and taxes.

Okay, not so much on the taxes part. But speaking of the Fourth of July, remember the Colonists weren’t thrilled about taxation without representation and that is what led to our quest for independence. So, not unlike every other municipality, the office of the tax collector has announced that all property owners  (land, buildings, personal) have taxes due and payable. No, not all at once, thank goodness.

All property owners in the Town of Groton are hereby notified that taxes on land, buildings, and personal property including motor vehicles will be due and payable July 1, 2013, based on the Town of Groton abstract of October 1, 2012, for the TOWN OF GROTON, GROTON SEWER DISTRICT, CITY OF GROTON, POQUONNOCK BRIDGE FIRE DISTRICT, MYSTIC FIRE DISTRICT, NOANK FIRE DISTRICT, OLD MYSTIC FIRE DISTRICT, GROTON LONG POINT ASSOCIATION, CENTER GROTON FIRE DISTRICT, WEST PLEASANT VALLEY FIRE DISTRICT, and MUMFORD COVE ASSOCIATION.

The Town of Groton and the Groton Sewer District real estate and personal property tax bills over $100.00 may be paid in full or in two installments. The first installment will become due July 1, 2013. The second installment will become due January 1, 2014.

Real estate and personal property taxes under $100.00, motor vehicle taxes, and all other fire district/political subdivision taxes will become due in full July 1, 2013.

These taxes shall be payable without penalty on or before August 1, 2013. All taxes not paid by August 1, 2013, will become delinquent and due immediately and subject to interest at the rate of one and one-half percent (1 1/2%) per month or fraction thereof from the due date.

Failure to receive a bill does not invalidate the tax or interest. If a bill is not received, please contact the Tax Office.
