Navy Assistant Secretary Visits Sub Base

Juan M. Garcia III explained new personnel policies, including Breathalyzer tests

 

Juan M. Garcia III, assistant secretary of the Navy, paid a visit to the sailors at the Sub Base New London on Wednesday, The Day reported.

The Navy official addressed new personnel policies, the article says, in an effort to "dispel any unneccesary anxiety," Garcia said.

Breathalyzer tests, The Day reports, will be administered not to simply discharge sailors, but to recognize a problem and curb it.

According to the article, Garcia also discussed the improving "fleet readiness," the Navy's record retention rates, worries about salary and benefits and changes to the retirement system.
