'Our Places, Our Stories' Grants Are Available

This historic preservation grant is offered through Connecticut's State Historic Preservation office

With all the buzz of , the State Historic Preservation office has a program of its own to contribute--"Our Places, Our Stories."

This historic preservation grant program is accepting applicants for the "Our Places, Our Stories" awareness initiative.

According to a news release, the program is intended to "raise awareness for the rich cultural assets of our ethnic nationalities" through both a documentation of state "historic" and "ethnic heritage" sites and the marketing of these locations.

“Connecticut’s story is perhaps best summarized by our state motto, ‘Qui Transtulit Sustinet,’ which roughly translated means ‘Where the Immigrant Prospers,’” Deptartment of Economic and Community Development Deputy Commissioner Kip Bergstrom said in the release.

“For more than 350 years, immigrant communities have prospered in our state. We need to use the power of the stories carried by our cultural landscapes
to make sure that the state motto holds true today and into the future.”

An overview of grant guidelines is posted online, and the application is available here.
