Rough Roads Ahead, Then Smooth Sailing

Big resurfacing job on Toll Gate Road and other streets begins July 8

The town Department of Public Works will begin resurfacing Toll Gate Road next Monday July 8 and that means about 6 weeks of disruption and no parking, but the result will be smooth sailing on Toll Gate, Carter Road and Knoll Drive.

The project begins with what DPW Utilities Division manager John C Carrington describes as the reclamation (grinding up of) the asphalt into gravel followed by new layers of asphalt resurfacing. That work will be followed by curbing and parking lot apron and driveway resurfacing with seeding, mulching and fertilizing the grass areas to wrap it all up.

What impact for residents?

No parking Monday though Friday from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Toll Gate Road and Carter roads and Knoll Drive. And while Carrington said residents will “always” have access to driveways, in some cases if equipment happens to be directly in front of someone’s house, access may be restricted “for a few minutes.”

Residents with questions or concerns should speak with one or the other of the two  paving foremen -- Dave Phillips and Jim Derusha – one of whom “will be on site,” according to Carrington. For more information call 860-448-4083.
