The good news, depending on your state of mind, is that the Mystic Streetscape Project appears to be winding down. The bad news is the next week will likely bring major traffic delays.
“I know it looks like a warzone out there,” Mystic Streetscape Project Manager Rick Norris said. “That’s what typically happens before paving.”

On Monday West Main Street from High Street to Bank Street will close to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Groton Police Department will be setting up signs announcing the closure and giving directions for detours beginning today.
According to a press release from the Groton Police Department:
- All eastbound traffic on New London Road will be diverted south on West Mystic Ave, and then north on Noank Road.
- Westbound car traffic will be diverted south on Water Street, to Noank Road, and then north on West Mystic Ave.
- Westbound truck traffic will be diverted south on Water Street, to Noank Road, to Elm St, and then north on Groton Long Point Road.
A temporary no parking order will go into effect from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, June 25 for all of Water Street and the northern part of Noank Road.
Paving on West Main Street and Water Street is scheduled for Thursday, June 28 beginning at 6 a.m. The road will be open to alternating one-way traffic during that time.
After the paving is done the orange cones along downtown will likely still be in place. lamp posts put up and utility poles taken down.
