Streetscape Update: Partial Road Closure Monday, Paving To Begin Thursday

Downtown Mystic businesses will be open during the road closure and paving.

The good news, depending on your state of mind, is that the Mystic Streetscape Project appears to be winding down. The bad news is the next week will likely bring major traffic delays.

“I know it looks like a warzone out there,” Mystic Streetscape Project Manager Rick Norris said. “That’s what typically happens before paving.”

Norris updated on the state of the project Friday morning at the .

On Monday West Main Street from High Street to Bank Street will close to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Groton Police Department will be setting up signs announcing the closure and giving directions for detours beginning today.

So the Town ruins business and drives people away and we all have to pay to get people back down here? Or am I missing something here?

The Art Association parking lot would have been full anyway, regardless of cost to park. It has been full when I have attempted to use it. So people Re now wasting time driving through a full lot. And then left without directions to find on-street parking. Locals know where to park. Visitors don't have wayfinding to direct them to parking, or to tell them to walk from Mystic Seaport to downtown because it is only a quarter mile away. Mystic has no wayfinding signage. It is going to remain unfriendly to tourists until people with vision realize what visitors want, and then provide it.
