Thames Street Road Project Starts Monday

Officials had said the project was to begin last month, but it appears that Monday is the day.

The Thames Street Rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin Monday, June 10.

The multi-million dollar highway project will affect the entire Thames Street corridor.

Residents, businesses and visitors should expect traffic delays and detours throughout the duration of the project.  Notices will be posted on the City of Groton web site at cityofgroton.com and the on the city’s Facebook page.  Notices about possible parking issues will be posted 24 hours in advance of any construction.

·      The second involves only milling and paving from the Puffins parking lot to the City of Groton Pollution Abatement Facility (PAF); and

·      The third is full depth construction from the PAF to Eastern Point Road.

Full depth construction entails the installation of new curbing, sidewalks, storm drainage and paving.

The project contract calls for a construction schedule of 270 calendar days or one (1) year.  The project schedule includes a winter shutdown from November to March.

B&W Paving and Landscaping of Waterford is the project contractor.  In May, 2011, Groton voters approved a $6,375,000 bond issue to fund the Thames Street renovations.

William E. Lewis, City Highway Department Project Engineer, is the City’s contact for the project.  Mr. Lewis can be reached at (860) 446-4164 or by e-mail at lewisw@yurservice.com
