Two Projects One Step Closer to November Ballot

Groton voters to decide on funding the police station upgrades and improvements on Flanders Road.

Groton Town Councilors unanimously approved two multi-million dollar projects upgrading the town’s police station and infrastructure Tuesday.

The $5.3 million project to the police station will address deficiencies in an area of the building that hasn’t been touched since 1977, according to a report in The Day. And a $9.9 million project on Flanders Road will extend water and sewage lines up the road with the hope that businesses will move to the area.

The second project has a number of supporters and opponents. Supporters say the town needs to install the infrastructure in order to attract business; opponents say it’s too risky and there’s no promise of return on the investment.
