USS Mississippi Assigned To Groton Port
The new U.S. Navy submarine will make a temporary home at Groton's Naval Submarine Base New London
The U.S. Navy's USS Mississippi submarine will soon make Groton its home, the Associated Press reports.
According to the article, the Virginia-class submarine has been temporarily assigned to the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, bringing the grand total of submarines based there up to 16.

The AP article includes a joint statement from Sens. Joseph Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal, confirming the Navy's news: "We are encouraged by this signal that both the base and the Virginia-class program remain indispensable elements of our nation's defense."
Robert Ross, director of the the state's Office of Military Affairs, expects The Mississippi, one of the Navy's newest submarines, to be stationed it Groton for at least a year, the AP reported.
