Groton's Acting Superintendent Leaving For Windsor

Mary Anne Butler will become assistant superintendent of instructional services for Windsor Public Schools on July 1.

Groton Acting Superintendent Mary Anne Butler has been hired to be the new assistant superintendent of instructional services, Windsor Public Schools announced Wednesday.

The current Windsor assistant superintendent, Robin Sorensen, is retiring.

Butler took over as acting superintendent May 7 after the Groton school board placed Superintendent Paul Kadri on administrative leave pending an investigation of his "interactions with and treatment of district employees."

That investigation is not complete, and Groton is looking for an interim superintendent.

The Windsor Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Butler, and she will begin working in town July 1.

“Mary Anne will bring her strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and the precise skill set that is required for the position," said Windsor Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Villar, who worked with Butler "some time ago when I was collaborating with the State Department of Education."

"With her extensive background in the development of quality curriculum and assessments, I believe Windsor Public Schools will benefit greatly by the appointment of Mary Ann Butler," Villar added.

Butler has served as the superintendent of curriculum and instruction in Groton since 2010. She also worked for the Connecticut State Department of Education where she led the department's SRBI program, in addition to serving as an education consultant and a secondary science consultant.
