Paul Kadri Termination Hearings Begin Today

The first hearing at 10 a.m. between Kadri, the Groton Board of Education and an arbitrator is closed to the public.

The termination hearings for Superintendent Paul Kadri begin at 10 a.m. today in the Groton Senior Center, but are closed to the public.

Kadri’s lawyer, Gregg Adler, said Monday he had not heard back from the state's Freedom of Information Commission about a complaint he filed last week about the Groton school board witholding documents he and Kadri requested.

But Adler said the hearing will proceed anyway.

The termination hearings are scheduled for today and Dec. 11, 14 and 20, according to an agreement between Kadri and the Groton Board of Education. Arbitrator Timothy Bornstein will oversee the process and his decision will be binding on the parties.

Under the agreement, post hearing briefs would be due two weeks after the last hearing, and no replies would be allowed. The arbitrator would make a decision within 30 days of receiving the briefs.

In a press statement last week, Kadri said he asked for e-mails of all board members and those identified in the investigative report involving him, starting on April 1.

Kadri was placed on paid administrative leave May 7, after an investigative report was released in which multiple employees accused him of abusive and threatening behavior. Kadri issued a response through his attorney, saying the allegations are untrue.

Kadri and his lawyer said the bulk of the information they requested was withheld or key information was missing. They filed the initial request for information on Aug. 29, and a complaint with the state Freedom of Information Commission last week.
