Board Expected To Meet Monday or Tuesday.

The Groton Board of Education is expected to meet early next week to discuss the investigation of Superintendent Paul Kadri and possibly make a decision, a board member said this week.

Kadri was though the board has not discussed details of what prompted its decision.

School Board Member Beverly Washington said the investigation is done, though she has not seen it. She said none of the board members have.

Washington said Floyd Dugas, the lawyer for the school board, has spoken to Kadri’s attorney.  She does not know what the conversation entailed.

Washington said the lawyers – not the board members – are having these discussions. She said board members are anxious to resolve the situation and will likely meet early next week.

“We need to start talking about this and bringing this to a close if possible,” she said. “The investigation is over, so the board needs to decide what we need to do.”

Board Member Shelley Gardner said: “I think we all want to move forward.”

The school board voted May 23 to hire former Waterford Superintendent Randall Collins as interim superintendent in Groton, and has been paying him the same salary as Kadri.

With two superintendent salaries of about $3,200 a week for 10 weeks, the board has spent roughly $64,000 so far.

“This is costing the taxpayers money. Let’s wrap this up,” Washington said.

Collins’ contract with the board ends on Aug. 31. Collins, who has declined to speak about Kadri or the investigation, said the board has not approached him about extending his contract.
