Key to her success:  “I like my instructors – they’ve been really helpful,” she says.

In fact, a teacher’s advice is what started her studying Residential Electrical Technology.  Another teacher later urged her to apply for a scholarship to study Nuclear Engineering at Three Rivers Community College in the fall.

“I came into Grasso Tech my freshman year thinking I’d be in the BET (Bioscience and Environmental Technology) trade, but one of my teachers told me it would be a waste of talent for me to be in that program – so here I am,” Murray says.

Murray studies Electrical Technology as her trade at Grasso Tech, and loves it.

“The work itself is fun for me. I really enjoy it. I also have a good group of people to work with in the program here.”

Best Advice: “I’ve listened to my teacher’s advice a lot. I focus on my schoolwork, but it’s also good to participate in outside activities like sports as well,” she says.

Do you know an outstanding student? Groton Patch is looking for students who excel at school, who are involved in their communities, and/or who are passionate about learning.

Each week, the Groton Patch will feature an individual child or youth group in the community that has accomplished something outstanding – from achieving in school to organizing fundraisers for a special cause close to their hearts.

We want to hear about these children and teens. Each week, we’ll select one as the Patch Whiz Kid of the Week. Submit your nomination in our comment box below, or email the information to deborah.straszheim@patch.com or Patch Contributor Rachel at rledgar09@gmail.com.
