Whiz Kid of the Week: Kailyn Lambert

Lambert Was Recognized With A Fitch Middle School Eagle Award For Her Kindness and Helpfulness

Whiz Kid’s Name: Kailyn Lambert, age 11

Whiz Kid’s School: , Grade 6

Whiz Kid’s Accomplishments: Lambert is a stand out student who has received high honors each trimester at Fitch Middle School. She swims competitively with the Mystic YMCA, competes in track and field events with her school team, takes photos for the yearbook and plays the viola.

“I like being part of a team and having fun with them,” she says.

The qualities that stand out most about Lambert are her kindness and willingness to help others, whether in school or at home.

Lambert enjoys assisting students in her math class who struggle with the material.

“Everyone goes at their own speed, but I tend to pick it up faster than a lot of the students in my class, so I can help the kid who sits next to me,” says Lambert.

Recently she was given an Eagle Award at her school in recognition of her kindness to others.

She enjoys volunteering with the youth group at , where she has helped organize an Easter Egg hunt for younger children and a ham dinner for the congregation.

Lambert is also a great help to her family at home. She helps out with her three younger brothers by babysitting and helping them get dressed in the mornings.

“It can be really hard to take responsibility for them sometimes, but I enjoy babysitting and helping my mom,” she says.

Key to her success: “I’ve always had very supportive parents,” says Lambert.

She says she’s learned a lot about time management from her mother, who is a teacher at , and her father, who is in the Navy.

“They’re really good at managing their time because they’re both so busy,” she says.

Best Advice: “It’s important to have an open mind, and to have a dream,” Lambert says. “If you have a dream, and if you work hard at it, it will come true no matter what gets in your way.”
