Former FHS Student Could Pitch For The Mets

Groton's Matt Harvey is Mets' prospect for 2012

Matt Harvey, a Groton native who turns 23 this month, is a top prospect for the New York Mets this season, and Yahoo Sports wants to know if he has what it takes.

According to the article, Harvey was seventh overall pick in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft after a great season at the University of North Carolina. He followed that up with a season of pitching in for minor league baseball.

In a fan-contributed piece on the site, the writer reviews Harvey's stats, and here's his final verdict:

"Overall, I do think Matt Harvey can and will be a starting pitcher in the major leagues. The fact that his stats were not nearly as good in AA as they were in A ball though, says to me he probably needs to pitch at least part of the 2012 season for the Mets AAA Buffalo Bisons team."
