House Speaker Wants To Review Connecticut's Self-Defense Laws

Connecticut's Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey said he wants to look at the laws after what happened in the George Zimmerman case.

Inspired by the recent not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial, Connecticut Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) said he wants to review the state's self-defense laws.

Sharkey told the Associated Press that he will meet with law enforcement officials and community groups to review the state's self-defense laws, and then address any issues with them during the state's next legislative session, which begins in February. Why?

"I know that we don't have the same kind of 'stand your ground law' as in Florida," Sharkey told the AP. "But it is something that I wanted to take a look at next session to see if we're doing anything that would create a scenario that might evolve the way the tragic situation in Florida did."
