Update: National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Warning for Groton

The National Weather has upgraded its winter storm alert from a watch to a warning and has upped the snow totals. Here's the latest forecast which advises snow totals in excess of a foot and stronger winds gusts than earlier Monday, the NWS now forecasts gusts over 35 MPH.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning Tuesday early afternoon through late Tuesday night for Southern Connecticut.

Significant snow, temps dipping into single digits and gusty winds – a winter Nor’easter – is predicted for Tuesday into early Wednesday.

The NWS is predicting snow accumulations of up to 4 to 8 inches, and potential higher totals over Southeastern Connecticut beginning late Tuesday morning with the heaviest snow expected Tuesday night. Wind chills propelled by north winds of up to 30 MPH will make the forecasted teens to lower 20s for Tuesday and single digits at night feel even colder, according to the NWS.

Travel during the storm could be hazardous; visibilities of less than half a mile for drivers and the extreme cold and sub-zero wind chills could cause frostbite if outdoors for a prolonged time, according to the NWS.
