HappyMom is absolutely right. There is a huge problem with overcrowding and this should be…Read More addressed sooner rather than later. Also, putting trailers in is not a solution.

Please change back the format of the patch to the old one. Hard to read areas with alot of other…Read More material in them. I notice this when reading alot of stories. For example today's story on the fitch High school musical. Other lines in the story not related to the one you are reading. I put a small copy of it in.
The show, set to a 1950's style beat, is a pulp comic-esque musical that follows two love-struck teens as they discover romance at the dawn of the atomic age -- and it is family friendly!

C. J. Boa - Better still, I should move to Stonington as many I know are doing, because they control…Read More their taxes with their referendum, which works really well... They pay 20-25% lower taxes than we do...

Can someone or the author post who voted for what on the council for these items?

Is it really necessary to reinvent the wheel. Advertise on an educator/administrator website.…Read More Review the candidates, select the most qualified, interview, conduct thorough background checks and make a decision. Leave politics out of the process. A boat, dock and pedigree is not required. Having spent time as an educator, however, is very important. Not rocket science. Spending big bucks on this process has not served Groton well.

Why does the Board have to hire another consultant search firm? According to newspaper reports the…Read More BOE has already spent far over budget A well placed and defined advertisement would elicit, no doubt, hundreds of resumes which could be easily short listed by the search committee

My son was moved from CK due to overcrowding to Claude Chester. The magnet program is a joke and…Read More everyone knows it. When it was first established, they did not know how it would work and they still don't. This move to concentrations in various areas is a joke. Call it the way it is, the magnet status was a way to make CK more diverse. It did not work.

what's funny is this Magnet school is still on the needs improvement list. Both my kids have…Read More attended that school from the day they opened their doors...administrators lied about my son having a learning disability to save on on budget...they doing the wrong testing to find out if a kid has a disability...they don't care about the kids they care more about money. Don't you think if a child can't do the basic math in 3rd grade theirs a problem..well, I think so. I'm happy that my last child will be out of that school next year because of the being tossed around. Maybe if Groton Housing didn't have 80% + in a certain race than the kids wouldn't have to be going all over the place. Come on people put the kids first not yourselves!!!

Dannyboy, please provide numbers showing how this merger you suggest would save millions. Please be…Read More specific.

Combining the police departments and highway departments will save millions of dollars every year.…Read More Thats every year. Why are there three police chiefs in Groton? Numerous upper level management costs too much money. The city of Groton is 3.9 square miles people. Losing Pfizer makes this an easy decision. And yes everyone, Pfizer is closing shop here very soon. Give early retirements to officers from both departments that are eligible or close. Have the patrol men and women change uniforms. Chief Crowley could run the entire thing. Im sure most officer's would love the change and to be in a larger organization means more chance for advancement in their profession. City of Groton Highway department in Groton 3.9 square miles. Are you kidding me? One highway department for Groton. There should be an immediate call for a referendum on this matter.

There was a lot of emotion at this meeting last night and a little bit of facts. Town Manager once…Read More again put his spin and spell on people for 30 minutes. He continues to grow our gov't with another big mill rate increase. Several people said there is little reason for people to move to Groton.
I for one have some faith that the COUNCIL may provide some LEADERSHIP and do what is best for ALL of Groton. We cannot continue to push out people and businesses by raising taxes and increasing spending. Education is important, but as Dr Ramos said we are at a fiscal cliff. Balanced spending and cuts to minimize the overall tax burden will be tough, but it can be done.
