Electric Boat employs about 10,000 people, including 7,500 at the shipyard in Groton, and it is one of theMore area’s largest employers. Most of the company's work comes from the construction of submarines, but Electric Boat also performs maintenance and modernization work, and is developing a new submarine that carries nuclear missiles and could provide a significant amount of future work.

Electric Boat bought the former Pfizer Research and Development building in New London, and expects to have 3,000 to 3,500 employees there by the end of 2012.

Since the company is a secure defense site, it is closed to the public. The company does not permit tours of the facility, but the public can visit the Navy's Submarine Force Library and Museum, also in Groton, by calling 860-694-3174.

The Noank Villlage Boatyard is a full service marina which accommodates sailboats, yachts and motorboats. Currently,More 150 boats use its docks and moorings. The floating slips offer boats hookups to power and electricity. There is also a 35 ton travel lift on the property for moving boats into and out of the water. 

Other services include winter storage, mechanical and structural repairs and motor sales. Seaport Charters, located onsite, rents boats to customers for fishing and salvage jobs.

The marina also has wireless internet, a picnic area with grills, bathrooms, showers and washers and dryers available for use. Events include get-togethers between yachting and sailing clubs.

The Fleet Reserve Association was founded in 1924 with the mission to represent the interests of the Sea ServiceMore community before the US Congress. The membership is made up of former members of the Marine Corps, Coast Guard and US Navy. The local chapter, Branch 20, has a beautiful brick building not far from Electric Boat and Pfizer, and is involved in the community, organizing events like youth education seminars and member and guest breakfasts.
