In addition to the academic curriclum, Butler focuses on character development and decision-making, and has students recite the "Respect Every Day" pledge. The school offers chorus for fourth and fifth graders and instruction in string instruments for students in grades 3 to 5,  a districtwide program. Fourth and fifth graders can also learn a band instrument such as the flute, saxophone or trombone.
American Billiards

American Billiards is principally a pool hall, but it also sells equipment and has arcade games. Founded in 1988, itMore features 14 nine foot tables and one seven footer for players. Customers can pay $8 an hour to play or else split the costs with other players a a table for $11 an hour. American Billiards also offers flat rate specials where one person can pay $15 dollars for a night, $10 a night on Thursday and Wednesday. The hall sells cues cases and pool balls as well as dart supplies. Customers can also have their sticks repaired. Other entertainment includes a jukebox and a few arcade games such as Golden Tee Golf.

Charles Barnum Elementary is in the Groton Public School District. It serves about 425 students in gradesMore pre-kindergarten through 5, many of whom have parents in the military. 

The school has a technology club for students in grades 3 through 5, to help students learn the basics of programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and GarageBand. The school serves about 410 students in prekindergarten through grade five, and has two half-day prekindergarten classes, two half-day kindergarten classes and two full-day kindergarden classes. In addition to academic subjects, the school offers orchestra, band and vocal programs, along with an art room including a pottery kiln. Parents volunteer in the school's classrooms as well as in the art, media and music programs. Paul Esposito is principal.
