The association helps oversee eight tennis courts, the harbor, roads, buildings and recreational facilities in the neighborhood. Groton Long Point also has its own fire district and police department.</p> <p>Groton Long Point's board of directors runs the daily operations of the government, but any major decisions are made by the subdivision's membership as a whole.</p> <p>Bob Congdon is president of the Groton Long Point Association and head of its board of directors.</p>

Popp left the post. As chief executive, she oversees city departments including the police, fire and highway department. She also acts as chairman of the Groton Utilities Commission and chairman of the board of directors for Thames Valley Communications, a division of the utility which provides cable, Internet and digital phone service.</p> <p>The mayor is elected to a 2-year term, with elections held in odd years in May.</p>
