I am a full time mom of two small children. I moved  to Tolland, CT in 1987. I went to school here, attended UCONN for my bachelors and masters degrees and have worked in the West Hartford area from 1998 through 2006  in all areas aging. I'm happy to be a part of the Mom's Council here on Patch. I'm looking forward to sharing with other mothers and caregivers in the area.

I have a passion for educating folks on older adult/aging issues that not only affect the aging population, but also the generations of people who love or have contact with older people. We are all aging and we are all connected. I hope to encourage a respect for inter-generational relationships in my children while helping other mothers like me who may be struggling with issues facing the sandwich generation.

I've worked in quite a few different areas in the aging field. I  worked for Connecticut Community Care until 2001 as a Case Manager, managing care plans to keep older adults in their homes for as long as possible.

I returned to UCONN School of Social Work and Graduated with an MSW in 2002 with a major in policy and planning and a minor in community organization with a substansive area in aging.  After I graduated, I got a job as a social worker at Hebrew Home and Hospital until 2003 and then worked as a Director of a Memory Impairment program at Hamilton Heights assisted living until 2006.

I've always enjoyed working with older adults. It all started when I was about 5 and my dad started taking me to a local nursing home to show movies. I've always loved visiting nursing homes and volunteering in hospitals.   I was a support group  facilitator for the Alzheimers Association from 2002-2006, educated staff regarding memory impairment/dementia care and  I've also taught a class on Gerontology at the University of Bridgeport 2005.

All interesting experiences that I hope will help me raise my own children with a sense of respect for others. Age is really just a number anyway!
